Author's Story
Born and raised in Louisiana, Gwen Chiniche Cotton learned how to swim at a young age. Having participated in swim for years, a healthy fear of water was a “must” for her boys as they grew up. However, after a tragic backyard pool accident involving her sister and her sister’s 3 year old grandson, she decided to write a children’s book with the goal of teaching a valuable swim lesson to young water lovers. If this book raises awareness of swim safety and saves a life, it accomplishes her goal.
Their Mission
Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death in children ages 1-4. No child is ever "drown proof". Formal swim lessons reduce the risk of drowning by as much as 88%. Reading Petey and Murray Go For A Swim along with formal swim lessons will teach young swimmers a valuable safety lesson. Children will learn to never swim without an adult, along with the important lesson from The American Red Cross, "Reach or Throw Don't Go".
